El fabricante nipón Honda y la revista británica Top Gear han trabajado mano a mano para conseguir un vehículo muy especial que denominan “Mean Mower“ y que podríamos traducir como el cortacésped malo o mezquino. Vamos, que es una auténtica bestia, obra de los expertos de Team Dynamics, la gente que desarrolla los coches de carreras de Honda para el campeonato británico de turismos.
Basado en el cortecésped HF2620, el Mean Mower ha sido completamente modificado y recibe un chasis específico, suspensión a medida, escape Scorpion y el motor de 1.000 centímetros cúbicos de una Honda VTR Firestorm de 110 CV manteniendo, eso sí, un módulo cortacésped de fibra de vidrio con dos motores eléctricos y cuchillas de acero de tres milímetros de grosor que giran a 4.000 RPM.
Este propulsor de motocicleta, junto a una transmisión de seis velocidades accionable mediante levas, permite que esta bestia acelere de 0 a 60 millas por hora (unos 96 km/h) en sólo 4 segundos y alcance una velocidad máxima cercana a los 210 km/h. No está mal para una cortacésped, ¿verdad? Quizá se quede algo corta siendo la de Stig…
Según Piers Ward, de la revista Top Gear, “Habiéndolo conducido, nunca he estado tan aterrado. Acelera como un cohete y, como cualquier cortacésped, no tiene cinturón de seguridad“.
